Would the economy benefit from the legalization and monopolization of marijuana by the government?

If the government legalized marijuana BUT only the government can sell it with almost no discrimination, would the economy benefit?
Ridiculous to grant only government the power to sell it when its so easy to grow. That would just result in more wasted police resources.
Weed isn’t that harmful so its pointless to put such restrictions on it.
The economy NEVER benefits by the government monopolizing anything.
I think leaving the government in charge of distributing and selling the marijuana would be ineffective.
I think california should experiment with this idea by allowing certain counties to sell it and then the state can collect a tax from the revenues it could bring that state out of its debt.

I gave up 23 years of life fighting it but if not already let me be the first one to call for the end of the Second Prohibition. Yes, legalize it, tax it reasonably, and restructure the laws so that the real crime is being under the influence when it matters.
Lets put it this way.. with the BIG busts that they recently have had.. the ONE guy was producing over 10 billions dollars worth of pot.. if they legalized it the governemtn could get out of debt in 7 years just based off of what has already been FOUND.. that does NOT include what is still out there… So now what do you think the answer to that is.. and that is coming from a person who doesnt like pot and doesnt smoke it…
No. Just no. Think about it, real hard if you still can. Even if they didn’t restrict it to medicinal purposes, which I see no real need for, all it would do is make all the pot heads do even LESS work because their drug of choice would be cheaper. Less production and more baked out losers is never good for an economy, you have to be either foolish or a pot head yourself to think otherwise…
hell yeah we should legalize it for recreational use.it would help the economy so must we be out of a ression and it would help bring world peace.
economy would benefit but people would be dying and more people get sick
means more money spent in healthcare, less people working cause they dying, more lung diseases from the smoke, more deaths and accidents from those who do dope and drive since people cant even control drinking and driving… less farm space used for growing crops to eat cause farmers might benefit more if they produce marijuana instead, and students getting high instead of going to school and becoming the doctors, astronauts, basketball and football players they dreamed of becoming when they were 8 years and still cute
yea sure sounds great
Decriminalization followed by centralized government control is much like an oxymoron. It’s still a controlled substance. Treat it like beer. New findings show it doesn’t impair driving nearly as much as alcohol, and it helps reduce one of the top killers: high stress. When you interfer with supply and demand, economics are impaired. Look up William Buckley and Milton Friedman with drug decriminalization, and you will find the brightest minds of the 20th century favor decriminalization of drugs.
