When will your SS benefits start if you reach your retirement age, say the 19th of the month.?

I will be eligible for Social Security retirement benefits on Sept. 19 of next year. Assuming my “paperwork” is in order, when will my first benefit payment be paid? Would it be in September, or pro-rated, or start in October?

  1. It’s hard to say the day you signed paper work and they do retro, so your fine.

  2. Your paper work should be send to Social Security Administration 6 months prior to your birth month and your first paycheck will be somewhere in your birthday month. And good luck.

  3. Social security eligibility starts the first full month you are 62. That is October. They pay the following month, November. Since your birthday is the 19th, the check is due on the 3rd Wednesday. The first link below is from the SSA FAQ on what month benefits begin. The second link gives the day of month of payments.
