What specific topic under “investing” would provide the most information and be easy to do a report about?

I am doing a paper/powerpoint presentation for class, and it has to do with Investing. Not investing as a broad subject, but any specific type of investing.

  1. I would probably do a brief compare/contrast paper on the benefits, risks, and differences between investing in stocks, bonds, options, futures, commodities, and currencies. Briefly describe each (like 1 paragraph) then spend a paragraph each on the particular risks and benefits of each, then wrap it all up with some BS about how many choices there are for someone to manage their money into retirment. Boom — 19 paragraphs in just a few minutes. Good luck, have fun, and learn something! You can start investing with like $50 in a Sharebuilder account. DO IT!!!!

  2. Unless you are savvy on investing you may want to take one subject such as Bonds
As a debt instrument it allows corporate or government’s to borrow money.

I think if your presentation answers:
Who buys them and why are they bought?
How are they sold? Example through the NYSE
How do they work for the investor? Such as interest is paid quarterly
Can you lose money (risk)? Example Corporate Bondholders have a greater potential for recovering their losses than stockholders, because bonds represent the debt of the company and the company has agreed to pay bondholders interest and to return the principal. if a corporation goes bankrupt.

For an A explain how the savings on your taxes works (See Taxable Equivalent Calculator below).

If you want to complete an easier paper just work on Savings Bonds. I would address the same questions above. FYI – The interest rates are all over the board and some have even stopped paying interest.
