What negative effects does universal healthcare have on the economy?

We’re doing a debate on whether Universal healthcare should be used, and we’re cons. I need some facts on why it would ruin the economy, increase debt, ect. Things that have to do with money, economy, and financial stuff. Thanks!
Ruin the economy?
The government is going to waste money anyway. Why not “waste” it on a health care plan that is more cost effective and covers more people.
Government does everything with far less efficiency than the private sector. – no exceptions.
Even if we disregard the long-proved ill-effects on actual care and assume they’ll “get that part right” we will all shift from paying for care (or for private insurance) to paying taxes to cover “free health care.” In the latter case, we WILL pay far, far more. Since in truth we cannot disregard what I mentioned above, we will be paying far MORE for a vastly inferior “product.”
Also, see below:
The present system is bad for the economy because it places much of the cost on Businesses and almost half on the government with no mechanism for cost control by market forces. If you want to claim universal health care would be bad for the economy, you must show not just that it is bad, but it is worse than what we have got,
The most convincing argument for the present system is that the money we spend in excess of what other countries spend provides money for research and creating new drugs and treatments.
Edit: universal heath care in not necessarily a national health care system like Canada or the UK. What is being proposed is Universal heath insurance with subsidies for people who can’t pay and penalties for people who can afford to buy insurance but choose not to.
Universal health care rations care by creating waiting lines. In Canada, many people are put on month long wait lines for all sorts of surgical procedures that can be scheduled within a week in the US. Many people die on these wait lines.
Also, the US is responsible for a huge proportion of the research and development that improves health care and creates new prescription drugs. Costs are high in the US because R&D is very expensive. If we universalized health care, R&D firms would not be able to afford to improve health care .
I am currently living in the UK as an expat. The health care system doesn’t even provide “the basics”. They don’t do ANY well visits for children. They don’t do any routine blood tests on patients. (Cholesterol, blood sugar, etc) They don’t even weigh you or take your blood pressure when you go to the doctor. They do AS LITTLE as possible. I have read and confirmed with a couple UK doctors that the average person in the UK has a cholesterol level of 300!!! (They learn that AFTER they have heart attacks) These people are all ticking time bombs. The government will not pay for routine testing. Therefore, you don’t even know that you should change your diet and lifestyle until AFTER you have a stroke or heart attack.
Have you ever looked at the teeth of most Europeans? Can you say NASTY? Well, that is because again they won’t pay for routine cleaning and care. My kids were denied a visit to the hygienist because the dentist said their teeth were just fine.
Further while the care is free you often have to wait so long for surgery, specialty care, or even a CAT scan that you die before you ever get it. There is no standard that the care has to be provided in such and such a period of time. Finally you can’t sue the health system for malpractice…if the doctor screws up and kills you or cuts off the wrong arm or takes out your left instead of right kidney…too bad for you.
First off, Chris you are full of it! And you do not live in the UK. YOU ARE SOMEHOW CONNECTED TO THE U.S. HEALTH CARE BIG WIGS THAT CONTINUE TO MAKE UNGODLY AMOUNTS OF PROFITS EVEN IN A RECESSION!
You want to talk about people dying in waiting lines? Not getting the necessary tests that are standard here in the USA? You want to talk about people waiting months to get a surgery they should have right away? How about you talk about people dying at home with a denial letter in their hand from their insurance company telling them that the surgery is not necessary? That those experimental or newer prescriptions drugs are not covered under their health plan? That those tests like you mention, blood, sugar, etc are not necessary at this time or warranted? What about them?!
Why is it that U.S. Doctors by almost 2 to 1 prefer a Universal Health Care system? Why?
Why is it that some of the biggest campaign lobbyers for the previous administration are big health insurance companies?
I would rather wait 5 hours in a waiting room waiting to be seen then not at all.
The question the American people have to ask themselves is, how long will they let these HUGE insurance companies continue to make huge profits on the blood of the people in the greatest land on the planet!
If anyone needs proof. Watch Michael Moore’s documentary “Sicko”.
