What do you think of lame authors putting a quote of a famous, accomplished writer in their novel?

Sometimes I get the feeling that they use a famous quote because, in a way, it makes their work look better. Then again, sometimes the quote fits perfectly, and it makes sense and improves my understanding of the novel. What are your opinions?
Specifically, what authors might you be referring to?
I’ve never seen that.
It all depends. I’m a writer. I haven’t put any quotes from other authors. Writers are free to put whatever they want as long as it is positive or with consent. It has nothing to do with their work looking better. If you pick up a book and you read the 1st ten chapters and it sucks butt the famous quote in the 11th chapter shouldn’t matter. If your book is good and you put a famous quote the chances of someone liking it more because of a quote is nonexistent. Half the time readers fly through quotes or pay no mind to them. It’s about the author not the quote.
My favorite quote is: “How can you sit to write when you have not stood up to live.” -Henry D. Thoreau (a writer) and I tell it to a few writer friends and friends who want to begin to write. I would probably put it in the jacket or something of the book if I had the chance. If a quote of his was in a book I wouldn’t buy it just because of the quote or like it any better.
