What Business major should I choose after the economic crisis?

I heard from a friend, after the economic crisis, accountants aren’t finding job placements. So, I’m startin to become worried because I don’t even know which major in Business I should take! Is International business better than accounting? What type of Business major makes money and has job security?

  1. Your friend is HIGH! The need for professional accounting is in much higher demand now as firms are in greater need of showing transparent and trustworthy information than ever before. Investors and financial institutions need to know if if they are risking their money with solid partners, and the only way to do this is through their accounting.

Do not focus on International Business unless:
    1) You are fluent (and I mean fluent) in a foreign language in the area you wish to deal with.
    2) You plan on spending several years overseas or in New York City (yes there are jobs in other cities, but they are much more competitive..NYC is the heart of global business in the US).

Accounting not a major for everyone…it definitely takes a certain personality. But, if you can get through it (and it takes at least a year’s more study and test-taking)…then, after doing a couple years working for “the big four” you can pretty much live where you want to live, and make a good living wherever that is.

If you stick with business, then a general business degree will give you a wide selection. A business focus in undergrad can be limiting unless you ALREADY have your heart set on something.
