What are the sectors and industries of investing?

I am really starting to learn about investing, and reading a lot of books about getting started. One thing I think will make it easier to get started is knowing all of the sectors and industries are. Can someone please help with this, but only serious answers

  2. Here are the industries by sector as defined by Yahoo.

  3. “Sectors” is the broader category, which is usually grouped as:
    -Basic Materials
    -Conglomerates
    -Consumer Goods
    -Financial
    -Healthcare
    -Industrial Goods
    -Services
    -Technology
    -Utilities

Industries are much more specific categories… my best estimate is that there are probably 150-200.
    Hope this helps.

  4. The big ” frame” around personal investing is called personal financial planning. Before investing, you need to understand what you want to accomplish with your money, why, and how. The investments are almost an afterthought. For example, you need cash reserves, downside protection, fixed and equity assets.
