What is the meaning of converse in the context of the following quote?

The way to chastity is not to struggle directly with incontinent thoughts but to avert ye thoughts by some employment, or by reading, or meditating on other things, or by converse. For he that’s always thinking of chastity will be always thinking of women.

This is a quote from Sir Isaac Newton. The obsolete meaning of converse is to have sex, but that doesn’t make sense here. So what does converse mean here?

Thanks.

I can’t find this information anywhere so your advice is much appreciated.

Why do some men quote scriptures in the Bible relating to women being submissive?

but never quote the scripture where God says that men are to love their wives as God loves the church. Let’s not forget that Christ died for the church. Seems like beam in the eye syndrome.
I do agree that women must know there place and where God has put us, I have no problem being second in command, as long as the man knows his role. But a lot of Christian men don’t, they just know that women are suppose to be submissive without understanding how we are to be treated.
