What do I need to know before investing in a new company?

No one in my family has EVER invested money. We save. I was always taught it was a gamble, and “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is”.
Someone close to me has recently invested money into a new company, and got a LARGE return in just one month. My husband is now wanting to invest as much money as we can also.
What would I even need to know before investing any money?
Please, no technical terms, like I said, I’ve never invested.

How does this work if one bank starts a foreclosure then sells to another bank before foreclosure is complete?

I have a mortgage with one bank and could not pay so the bank started foreclosure proceedings. The foreclosure is not completed yet so does the new bank have to start all over and file all over again?

I am in the family business and my mom is clearly strained… We are blessed to have business hand over fist even in this recession but that is not my problem, or question… My question is how can a small business owner learn to lay back enjoy the fruits of their labor??? I mean she has owned this insurance agency for 30 yrs. and has nursed it from ONE policy to what it is today? But her health is declining as she is still trying to take payments, pictures of homes, etc. on what should be considered now at least a “mid sized” business?

WWE Heavyweight Champion Edge announced yesterday that he is being forced to retire. After suffering numbness and uncontrollable trembling in his arms and hands, he went for an MRI last week. The doctor determined that Edge would never be cleared to compete again, and would be forced to retire immediately. Amazingly, Edge was just on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight discussing the possibility of retirement. But you can tell, he had no idea the end of his career would be coming so suddenly.
