1999 World Class: Sang Lee Vs Ira Lee pt1 of 8

I feel fortunate to have located an old video cassette of myself playing 3-cushion billiards with the late World Champion and 12-time US National Champion, Sang Lee – a match from the 1999 Carom Corner Tour (2nd Stop) event at World Class Billiards (outside Boston, MA). As far as I know, it is the only footage of me playing billiards together with my friend and inspirational mentor. Special thanks to Jan Carl for capturing it on camera. Floyd Blansky and Jan Carl did the commentary for the match. I played fairly well but, as expected, was beaten badly 40-19 in 19 innings. Sang Lee obviously didn’t even have his “A game” turned on – in fact, players will notice that he was particularly “kind” to me (left me relatively open). My best shot from the match was this draw “snake” shot – taken at high speed with draw-right english in order to kill the angle on the 2nd cushion (one of my favorite shots). (Part 7, 2:28) www.youtube.com It’s a poor quality video – but I may (in the future) layer on-screen scores and perhaps insert my own voice commentary to add even more personal meaning to this sentimental match – preserved for me by chance by my good friend Jan. There is surprisingly little Internet video of Sang Lee’s masterful 3-cushion talent. This particular match was never put online, but there is a special collection of Sang Lee archival footage available on CaromTV.com. Enjoy.

1999 ESPN SportsCenter Intro and NFC Championship Story

(c)1999 ESPN-Disney/Hearst-Argyle Contains my favorite SportsCenter theme and favorite SportsCenter set. The January 17, 1999 edition of SportsCenter featured stories on the Championship games, as well as fallout from Michael Jordan’s second retirement (should have been his last considering his ill-fated stint with the Wizards) and the trade of hockey player Pavel Bure to the Florida Panthers. Hosted by Dan Patrick and Kenny Mayne (the guy in the lederhosen at the end of one SportsCenter commercial). Mayne, who had some pretty big shoes to fill as the successor to Keith Olbermann, introduces the NFC Championship piece.
