It’s much ado about nothing. This case stems from the Hilary video. Anyone should be able to make a political video and get funding to run it as a TV commercial. That’s a good thing.
Both parties are too big and fat and ineffective. Government is 35% too big. A lean government with audited officials focused on a smaller scope will perform better. Same thing with the military and with large corporations. Shrink um and improve their performance. or die.
Money gives you more air time on tv and radio. The more people you can reach with your message, the more people will be tempted to vote for you. That’s how PR works and many, many people believe everything thing they see on tv.
So yes, i do believe that the person with the most money has a better chance of winning an election.
The Supreme Court did this because the Republicans were severely underfunded for the next election (Democrats had at least quadruple the money). This ruling has suddenly tilted the playing field in the Republicans’ favor.
Limits on campaign finance never do a damn thing to “save” or “protect” our electoral system. The system is only as strong as the voters and people in it. If we let corporations pillage, it’s our own fault. We shouldn’t scapegoat money or finances, as if without corporate financing or personhood, we’d be able to EASILY get progressive legislatoin passed. Please.
Just b/c someone’s not part of a corporation doesn’t mean they’re gonna go for the liberal agenda by default.
And do you folks honestly think that, even if we did remove corporate personhood, the world would magically be healed? Everything would be a-ok, and corporations wouldn’t be able to “pillage america”, as some claim??
People are gonna vote pro or anti-corporation whether or not a corporation lobbies them. The 2-party system is pretty stable partisan-wise. Liberals and conservatives vote along their party line.
Our economy and much of our society hinges on the strength of corporations who hire people and give them good wages and benefits and whathaveyou. To say that they shouldn’t have the right to lobby against certain harmful or overburdening gov’t actions is absurd! I mean, what if the gov’t enacted Communism tomorrow? Would you still say “corporations shouldn’t have a say” even though that would crush their power to be competitive and create good products at low prices? It’s ridiculous.
Do you really think corporations give money to people or lobby with the idea that “Once we accomplish this, and he supports our cause, he’ll be ours for life”?? come on! No one in the political process is that naive. They know that you can only win individual cases and battles. You can’t “buy” a senator or congressman. Eventually he’ll vote against you.
People are only as buyable as their corrupt nature. Don’t like buyable politicians? Vote them out. It’s simple as that.
If you know you can compete and get people on your side, you don’t have to worry about corporate contributions or influence! Corporate contributions and influence are only as strong as the people who accept it. Even if the Blue Dogs were “bought” by corporate America, it wasn’t by force. They’re corporatist Dems. Even if corporations could give only $5 or had no voice, the GOP and Blue Dogs would still defend em. That’s the nature of those people. That’s reality. Not bogus conspiracies
Well, I’m afraid it’s inevitable. No taxation without representation, right? We can’t lawfully regulate and tax a group like corporations and then say, “But you can’t get involved in the political process and stop bad taxes or laws, no matter how much your company may hurt.”
I mean, you could argue they’ve “gone too far”, but in general, it has to be allowed. And stop being a fucking whiner. You CAN compete. Convince and persuade the people to be on YOUR side of the debate.
If corporations are people, then acquisitions are slavery. Buying and selling people is against the law so no corporation should every be able to acquire another one.
Rather I should say ANOTHER problem is, not THE problem. These B.S. campaign contribs alongside treating corporations like people irritates me to no end.
Quite right, and don’t forget that the Federal Reserve has been robbing us since 1913. The problem is that the U.S. has been borrowing its own money — every single dollar printed or conjured into existence on a computer — from a quasi-private bank with private shareholders whose identities have never been revealed. The Fed is a big fat leech sucking the lifeblood of this nation and most of our national debt is owed to the fed. Why would we borrow our own money and pay interest on it?
An interesting application about corporation rights. That could create a situation where you could just form some sort of “Business” between any two people and create a third person. This could be compounded so if you added an actual third person that could make a “Business” with each of the original 2, and all together make 3 people and 3 “Businesses” = 6. All with individuals rights.
Imagine if you had 30 people do this… 30 people, 435 “Businesses” = 465.
“Using the Jurisdiction and Removal Act of 1875, a law created so black litigants could bypass hostile southern state courts if they were denied justice, Southern Pacific was able to appeal all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
The ability to become incorporated, and attain “Human” rights was enacted to protect former slaves, but unfortunately, it has been perverted to allow corporations operate with little liability for the owners.
how the fuck can company get the same rights as a fucking human ????????????/ that is fucking retarded & and the worse the thing is they are buying politics how is that right of course the people would matter less now money runs more then the will of the people we are doom is no saving us are fucking gov are the most retarded in the world

wow. Six straight comments of bullshit.

Excellent discussion, but I don’t think much of his proposed solution.
I think we can all agree that a Constitutional Amendment stating only natural persons enjoy the rights under the Constitution is long overdue.

Now we have to give them a political voice?
Overturn?
Doesn’t the act of giving human rights to a corporation, in effect give some a double voice over the rest of us?
I support x candidate, and so does the corporation I have controlling interest in?
disaster

Doesn’t matter how crazy they make the ads, Fox News’ programming will make them look as Liberal as Jefferson
