No Direction Home: Bob Dylan Trailer (2005)

The Trailer for the insanely underrated documentary by Martin Scorsese. No Direction Home is a documentary film by Martin Scorsese that traces the life of Bob Dylan, and his impact on 20th century American popular music and culture. The film does not cover Dylan’s entire career; it concentrates on the period between Dylan’s arrival in New York in January 1961 and his “retirement” from touring, following his motorcycle accident in July 1966. This period encapsulates Dylan’s rise to fame as a folk singer and songwriter, and the controversy surrounding his switch to a rock style of music. If anyone is interested in Bob Dylan’s life and career, check out his autobiography “Chronicles: Volume One”, DA Pennebaker’s “Don’t Look Back” & “Eat The Document”, Murray Lerner’s “The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival” and Todd Hayne’s “I’m Not There”. If anyone is interested in the films of Martin Scorsese, I recommend watching “Raging Bull”, “Taxi Driver”, “Goodfellas”, “Casino”, “The Last Waltz” and “The Departed”.

  1. Absolutely love this film

  2. @kallemick Don’t forget…Also the same Scorsese that had part in another epic music documentary “Woodstock” when he was fresh out of film school

  3. @jotacalvo I first time I saw this movie was when it was just released and they were playing it on PBS. Anyways, like you I had really no idea who Bob Dylan was or why he was big. Well that was about to change, and fast. He soon became my favorite artist and he still is years later. Your right, we really missed out. Luckily amazing live footage like the movie shows still exists.

  4. @epicsmack Possibly FYE as well

  11. If there is some divine thing or being, you can find it in Dylan’s music.

  12. Bob Dylan is my hero as a musician and human being.

  13. @jotacalvo I was born in ’90. Just try to imagine how much I hate that for the reason of not being able to see Dylan around this time alone. TRY.

  14. I saw Bob Dylan & The Band live in Chicago in his first tour after his motorcycle accident. Too marvelous to describe. This documentary is a gem. Bob Dylan wrote the words which helped inspire the social change activism of the 60′s. He wanted to be a writer; he didn’t want to be a “rally spokesman.” That was fine with all of us; he did his part in his own way, and we did ours. Together, at least some positive changes were made. PEACE & LOVE TO ALL.

  18. Hey does this movie include the press conference in San Francisco in 1965? Just wondering cause I’m getting it tonight and it would be awesome if that was included. If you know?

  19. I bought it and I madly love it.
    I love ya Bob Dylan.

  20. Embarrassed to admit that I never realized until this movie what a genius he is and the influence on the American psyche. Never cared about Bob until this movie, now he’s one of my all-time favorites. It is no waste of breath to call him a genius, or visionary, even if it does make him uncomfortable. He said what many others were thinking but didn’t have the cojones to admit it. I really missed out by being born in ’69

  21. So good. Best Dylan era. <3
