Lost Vegas: Vanguard

During the boom years, no place in America boomed more than Las Vegas. But when the economy collapsed, Vegas fell hard. Laura Ling tours the wreckage of Sin City, from unemployed strippers and half-built, abandoned casino projects, to hospitals turning away cancer patients and ambulances, to one of the few remaining boom industries–evicting people. “Vanguard,” airing Mondays at 9/8c on Current TV, is a no-limits documentary series whose award-winning correspondents put themselves in extraordinary situations to immerse viewers in global issues that have a large social significance. 1. America sucks, glad I don’t live there.
I don’t know any other country that would treat you like this.
It would not have cost them one thing to give these people 24 hr’s at the least.
I live in Brazil and can guarantee you it would not happen here.

  2. @ACrazyIrishBastard
Might I suggest you go and watch the movie/documentary “Inside job” staring Matt Damon. They explain perfectly how the banks (the people who lend out money at what should be/is illegal interest rates) have been playing Russian roulette with the American peoples money.

Ofc you shouldn’t give houses for free but with the way the bank system is there is almost no chance in hell any normal American can even come close to paying the crazy loans these banks have issued.

Oh please. That’s how the system works. If you’re unable to pay your mortgage after several months of not paying, you need to find a home that you can afford. What is the alternative? Just give people houses for free? Now THAT would be bullshit.

  4. Another excellent documentary by Current. I like how the reporters don’t necessarily take a side, they just report the stuff as it is. They don’t spin it. If it were not for you guys, I wouldnt watch anything on youtube. Thanks for posting. Great stuff

  5. so we pretty much fucked ourselves by overspending on a foreign product because it was cheaper and now everyone’s unemployed and broke. God i can only imagine the homeless percentage now.

  12. That is not right to kick someone out without notice.

  13. Time to exit before the riots take place here…The NWO has mad it their mission to kill the economy in order to displace the middle / working class and bring them down to their knees . A recovery is a dream , like hitting mega bucks, cause Las Vegas produces nothing! We are based on the service industry – not manufacturing . Las Vegas is a sign of the times….Michigan and other parts of middle America has been there for years.

  14. after 9/11 las vegas turned into more of a sh=t hole than it is.. it hasnt been a vacation hot spot for celebs since 2pac died.

its still amazin how popular las vegas has gotten again in the last 2-4 years..

its still the same smelly asshole town i love.

  19. I remember watching this when it first aired on current and was able to talk to the lady that became a stripper by visiting current.com.After leaving the mortage job behind she seem’d to be alright. But, now it would be nice if they did a follow up to this episode.

  20. As soon as those fucktards leave I would send a fucking rock through the window and get my shit that they wouldn’t give me time to grab. Fucking Christ that is ridiculous.

  21. @dymd3z cops serve the state, not the people

  22. “Has this been built on an unsustainable dream” Vegas hasn’t the economy/money system has. When the money system all revovles around degradation of the environement it is obvious that it is unsustainable

  23. @MrSafetymeeting While their may be a lot of stalled housing projects in California. Keep in mind California is the most populated state in the United States Of America. So it will eventually be an fruitful investment. Las Vegas is dying since so many local Casinos are popping up EVERYWHERE in the U.S.A.

Less tourism in a city 100% based off tourism will die no matter what in a short amount of time. California won’t.

  24. Its SIMPLE. Your LAME OVERPRICED WHORES have done you all in! We goto Thailand now.. Its 1000x BETTER and CHEAPER! OUTSOURCE YOUR VACATIONS!
