Is now a good time to start investing in a Roth IRA?

I just started a new job not too long ago, and have been investing into my 401k for a little over a year (I’m 24). I have been wanting to open a Roth IRA account, but don’t know if it’s wise with the economy the way it is at the moment. Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. I don’t think it is a good time to stash money in an account that you can’t tap for the next 35 years. It seems to be a good time to invest in stocks.

  2. A roth is a great idea. It probably should go into stocks as well, or at least DCA into them.

  3. The Markets are always at there bottom when all the bad news hits.

Just remember if you are looking to buy stocks it should be with a very long term time frame.

  4. Its always a good time to invest in an IRA and you should maximize your contributions every year. You just need to keep your asset allocation balanced according to your risk tolerance, in stocks, bonds and fixed income and cash.

  5. Usually the most successful investors are the ones who invest when the market is way down. No one can tell you exactly where are when the bottom will be. But it certainly a lot closer now than it was a year ago. I would say start now when you are young. Stay diversified, using mutual funds instead of individual stocks.
