How much does your Korean bank charge to transfer money out of the country?

This is for people who have or have had a bank in Korea and have transferred money to another coutnry. How much does your bank charge you to transfer money out of the country? How much money did you send? Do you know if the fee changes with the amount of money sent?

  1. I have lived in korea for two years and have had to transfer money a few times. First, each bank has there own policy so I do not know exactly what your bank will do but can tell you what has happened for me.
First, obviously you need to have not only your bank account # from the other country as well as the routing # for that account. Also, some bank branches do not have very good english speakers so if you do not speak Korean well or cannot have a Korean friend to help you, you may have to consider another branch of your bank. I kept receipt from the first time, so I speak some Korean and show them the receipt and they understand without issue. LOL.
Anyway, as for the fees, again banks will be different. But, I have transferred over $5,000 at a time and only was charged less than $30 for fees. I am certain, that the fees are depandent on how much money you send as in…the more you transfer, the less those fees will be relatively. For example, if you transfer $1,000, the fee maybe $20 but if you transfer $5,000 the fee will only be $30. To be cheaper like some of my friends, they get money orders (like Amex) from the bank and send it to the US to a family member to deposit for you (fee for $ order is cheap and then postage will be super cheap).
    Good luck.
