How does bank of america’s bill pay work when paying an individual?

I’m attempting to give a friend some money, and the easiest way for me to do it is through Bank of America’s bill pay. But when paying an individual, how do they give the person the payment? Do they mail a check? Thanks!
Also, is the delivery date Bank of America shows the estimated date the check will arrive to the person or is that the date they will mail the check? Thanks for the help!
It works. They mail a physical check. I pay royalties to the performer on a CD I produced that way.
Addition:
The delivery date is the estimated date the check will arrive. Since they’re mailing a physical check, its ultimate transport and delivery is up to the USPS, so they can’t guarantee the date. When there’s a deadline involved, I try to schedule the delivery date at least one day early. It’s worked so far.
