Excerpt from meeting THE PRESIDENT: Can I just interrupt, Jared, before you ask the next question, just to say that we — we took votes about which questions were going to be asked and I think 3 million people voted or — DR. BERNSTEIN: Three point five million. THE PRESIDENT: Three point five million people voted. I have to say that there was one question that was voted on that ranked fairly high and that was whether legalizing marijuana would improve the economy — (laughter) — and job creation. And I don’t know what this says about the online audience — (laughter) — but I just want — I don’t want people to think that — this was a fairly popular question; we want to make sure that it was answered. Obama wants to legalize it. He really do but as a leader he has to set an example for all people young and old. If we give him a second term since after that he can’t run anymore so he would not care then he will legalize it.

Obama isn’t ignorant of the issues… he understands what’s going on and i’m sure he agrees INTERNALLY with the argument to legalize and regulate. But sadly, and somewhat understandably, he doesn’t want to be remembered as “the guy who legalized pot.”
Don’t be mislead though, if the debate grows to a full national level and more of those good ole progressive reform supporters are elected to congress… he would be hard pressed NOT to sign the bill when it reaches his desk.
