A Challenge for the Discovery Institute: Methodological Naturalism

The Discovery Institute’s stated goal is the overthrow of scientific materialism. What does that mean, and why do they want to overthrow it? I have a challenge for the Discovery Institute in return. Can they produce some example of how a supernatural explanation has defeated scientific materialism in the past? For more information on this topic, I recommend the work of scientists Robert Pennock and Tom Schneider. How did they know it was the lettuce?, an article by Robert T Pennock www.msu.edu More about Dr. Pennock at his Michigan State faculty page www.msu.edu And his battle against IDC www.msu.edu Evolution simulation and information theory by Tom D Schneider, National Cancer Institute www.lecb.ncifcrf.gov

  1. The problem is that supernatural explanations are used to explain things that we do not understand. This in every situation that we are not supernatural explanations to understand better than natural. The only thing where naturalists and supernaturalists differ is that the scientist would say that we find at the end of an explanation, and supernaturalists we do not say. demand is so easy for both sides to victory by the assertion. The Alpha and the Omega statement as they were. . .

  2. Great video. One thing that is missing, but is a good definition of the supernatural. I recommend you visit Richard Carrier’s blog and read his essay “Definition of the supernatural.”

  3. Hmmm. . . I think that is a good example of a viable explanation for a supernatural phenomena, why someone Dane Cook pays nothing to do. No way this is a natural phenomena, he has sold his soul to the devil.

  4. What caused the Big Bang? Methodological – we can say that it is just like every single atheist States passiert.Naturalismus POV-Big Bang matter always existed just a date in time to agree to do whats beginnen.I happening in the U.S. A was the majority (prodomatly Redneck christian) think that their beliefs to mislead the science is becoming more religious lebendig.Die science is like, religion / philosophy provides us why. To the religion is taught in science ignorant.

  5. The Discovery Institute was just making a false principle of whole cloth [a straw man], because they also were aware that the idea of the attack would be on the actual method of science itself quickly as silly to be considered – by anyone. they claimed, “Baseball is not only – it is really theological Baseball” and tried to get away with it. NO – baseball is just baseball and theological Baseball has not actually ever played anywhere. one is real, the other never existed.

  6. The Discovery Institute does not understand science. It goes back to falsification: even if they should be right and God created everything in 7 -24 hr times, it still would not be science. And there is the objective / subjective experience, even when the supernatural is real, “so far all the reported experiences are subjective. As long as there are no objective data, such experiences are irrelevant to science. If we are objective supernatural data to discover, by definition, it would not be more supernatural.

  7. Haeckel achieved more than any modern biologist. So yes, I’m a fan. He classifies tens of thousands of radiolarian species, there were some early histology, founded modern embryology

  8. How DARE these fuckers close up the good tradition of Entdeckung.Hervorragende vid, C0nc0rdance!

  9. Hey, Fanboy Haeckel, what’s going on? Did you block me from your page? I wanted to give a big shout out to my favorite Haeckel fan, but I could not posted to your page. Feel free to add something on my side. I will not delete it when it really bad.

  10. He said it is clearer than I: Did methodological naturalism of the most prolific meme in science. Supernatural, are all turned up empty and unproductive, when the natural world applied. What basis, then go to the Discovery Institute want to “overthrow scientific materialism”? I try to show how anti-science nature, this goal of hers.

  11. PZ Myers has a good spin on this subject on Pharyngula now. Under the headline “It’s not a negative filter, it is a standard of quality,” Have fun!

  12. Sorry, I’ll never understand why you want to add “if it is a supernatural world,” if all that can be done by re-examining the natural world.

  13. You have to calm her, a Kerbe.Lesen you my first comment, I was to conclusions guess not, what, what you seem to say sprechen.Wissenschaft does this all the time. We can know there are things, without seeing, because they interact with reality in some way. If you read my first comment, I said, this would be the case if there is a supernatural world, and if our current understanding is insufficient, we find a new explanation, and that can also redefine the old framework.

  14. If there are 3 apples and 1 orange in box C and 3 oranges and an apple in box D can tell you, you’re likely to find an orange in D compared to C, but only when I turn on field D. against your original statement about chance, because you do not D and can make us loose the orange in C.

  15. by supernatural I provided my positing the existence of something or it without scientific Grundlage.Wenn you can not find something in box A, you can not say its probably in box B if theres no box B in evidence. Its more likely you will miss it in box AThats my whole point, I say no more. In other words:

  16. lol damn read again what I said and not what you think, I say.

  17. Science is not the existence of a supernatural, you have closed. There is a difference.

  18. Your use of the supernatural, and your insistence on telling me what I think is also an assumption. I said nothing of the sort.

  19. Their first number, for one thing is quite silly and say unsinnig.Wenn: “But you are assuming a property of the supernatural world before it exists at all the detection and explanation of probability, without even knowing all the possibilities” . You completely missed the part where I talk about the end, and the fact that science changes definitions all the time, when new findings, including increases if there is evidence for a conclusion.

  20. I discount your example of the supernatural because it can be demonstrated in nature. This is what I have said before, so thats not go back peddle, peddle it is a further, followed by a discount of reason, therefore, say warum.Von supernatural numbers is a logical fallacy if numbers can occur in nature. (The name affirming the consequent).

  21. what assumption I make?

  22. Dont tell me we do not tip-physical things, then when I give you a direct example, say back-peddling, that doesn’t count because we know it.

  23. You are not understand what I ever sagen.Sage is one of them something before it “evidence” has nothing to do with what I just said, because I wanted to say exactly Gegenteil.Ich’m not even sure why you argue because you’re not addressing what I actually said, but do assumptions.

  24. No, following the redefinition of the physical in an unknown domain to support a declaration is not “just because you say it does, and since one of that basis judge me, so confused, your opinion is invalid and is reflected back to Ihnen.Ihre example is irrelavant numbers, because numbers are presentable in the natural world. But you are assuming a property of the supernatural world before it exists at all the detection and explanation of probability, without even knowing all the possibilities.

  25. What I have said, if there was not a physical explanation, then the more likely a non-physical. That would mean changing what defines physical (currently of space and time). I think you confuse an end to guessing, say this is nonsense. There are many things that are not physical injury (like numbers) that still exist.
