(c)1999 ESPN-Disney/Hearst-Argyle Contains my favorite SportsCenter theme and favorite SportsCenter set. The January 17, 1999 edition of SportsCenter featured stories on the Championship games, as well as fallout from Michael Jordan’s second retirement (should have been his last considering his ill-fated stint with the Wizards) and the trade of hockey player Pavel Bure to the Florida Panthers. Hosted by Dan Patrick and Kenny Mayne (the guy in the lederhosen at the end of one SportsCenter commercial). Mayne, who had some pretty big shoes to fill as the successor to Keith Olbermann, introduces the NFC Championship piece.
I just watched that after having Deja vu last night. Makes me want to cry and puke all over again. Why do the Vikings always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against inferior opponents in these games? It just kills me.
noobie…BRILLIANT KENNY!
Lol @ Moss’s attitude; look at his body language after all the missed deep balls.
You mean downgraded.
And that took place in 2000, and the show has been unwatchable ever since.
This music from back in the day feels like HEAVEN!!
I had NO idea that Pepper Johnson was still playing football in 1998. Wow.
Wow, SportsCenter looks really old here. I thought it had upgraded its theme/graphics by ’99.
Miss that sportscenter theme and intro with that sax playing.
The only thing I hated about that game was the way Atlanta played in the Superbowl and how they dissapeared the next couple seasons.
I love these old sportscenter tapes
great job
To this day, I still insist Atlanta sold their souls to Satan to get to the Super Bowl.
i was this game and it still hurts 11 years later
Welcome to the Big Show!
im glad i was only 9 when this happened
Fuck that!
Hey, do you have any way of selling copies of the old 94-99 Sportscenters/NFL Primetimes? I’d pay for those.
Been desperately looking for someone to get these from.
I don’t think so. The Broncos were too good for the Vikings to beat, though it would have been VERY close. But hey I am a biased Bears fan.
Good luck with Favor this year.
I remember this from the original broadcast. Thanks for posting!
oh yeah btw gg in tha sb falcons u suck balls. vikings woulda beat denver u got so fuckin lucky it makes me sick.
god damit if cunningham would of just threw if farther at 5:23 game over moss had him burned he had to slow down fuck.
Speaking of “what’s old is new again”, look at 2:46. Who’d have guessed Mr. Conservative, Dan Reeves of all people, would have been running an early form of the Wildcat?
In fact, if you get any of the FS regional channels, they are using the same graphics package as the “mother ship” or vise versa .. don’t know yet whether they will go back to the corner box (like CBS has now) when the NFL returns
so youre saying the box is back again wow thts pretty cool i gotta check tht out. and boy do i remember this game like it was yesterday, i cant believe it was 10 years ago tht Andersons brother beat him (he must have felt like shit losing to his brother)
what’s old is new again… has anyone noticed the new “Fox Box” for baseball is a corner of the screen job like the one seen here from football 99 .. instead of the strip all the way across the screen Fox has used for much of the 2000s..
This is when ESPN/Sportscenter was somewhat watchable.
Thanks for sharing, I found this story while searching for popular lyrics, thoughtful comments and good points made.
Thanks!
